This week, Indian ports have marked a significant development by taking delivery of approximately 4 million barrels of Iranian crude oil. Details of the Shipments
The two supertankers involved in this operation—Felicity and Jaya—each dolled out around 2 million barrels of crude oil. Felicity has docked at Sikka Port in Gujarat, while Jaya is moored near Paradip Port in Odisha. Reportedly, the Indian Oil Corporation purchased the cargo on the Jaya, whereas Reliance Industries has been identified as the buyer for the shipment on the Felicity.
Impact of U.S. Sanctions Waiver
The recent shipments were facilitated after the U.S. issued a one-month sanctions waiver on March 21, allowing the sale of Iranian oil that was already in transit. This move aims to help stabilize global markets amidst ongoing uncertainties. In light of recent disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, India is scrambling to secure its oil supplies, making this delivery particularly timely and crucial for its energy needs.
